Art-Related Classes and Workshops

I have conducted mindful drawing workshops at Columbia University, UC Davis, and the UC Davis School of Medicine. These 45-90 minute workshops are geared for general audiences with no art or mindfulness experience. They use figure or classroom drawing exercises to introduce mindfulness and drawing concepts together and encourage regular mindfulness.

I conducted an abstract portrait workshop for the 2024 Gold Humanism Honor Society annual meeting. This workshop encouraged medical professionals with all levels of art experience to explore the ambiguities of transference and countertransference together.

I designed and teach an elective 120 hour drawing course for 2nd year medical students at UC Davis. Drawing and Observation in Medicine encourages medical students with all levels of familiarity and comfort in art to engage in daily drawing and art viewing. Workshops led by the professional artists Sally Cochrane, Laura Ferguson, Tanya Gill, and Vesna Jovanovic are integral to the course. The course also includes a visit to Sacramento's Crocker Museum, and reading academic papers about the benefits of art for medical professionals and patients.

Prior to my career in medicine, I taught private drawing lessons and taught a drawing class for students at Ohio Wesleyan University's New York Arts Program.
